Don’t Talk About it–Be About It

This post is a tribute to my brother-in-law, Chad. Today is his birthday, and the title of this post is a mantra he shared with us long ago.

Unbeknownst to Chad, this idea has permeated many of our decisions and lifestyle choices. When we find ourselves constantly talking about something we want to do or be, we remember this idea to help us take action.

Chad truly embodies this mantra, “Don’t talk about it, BE about it.”

Chad loves the Redwood trees and photography. He moved to Oregon for a few years to be closer to the Redwoods and fully experience them. No one questioned his passion for nature and photography, because he was living it.

He continues to find new passions and interests, and he fully dives into each new pursuit. I admire people who take quick and smart action.

We all have things we want to do or be. But are we taking action and living it out, or just constantly talking about it?

For a long time I was not living my dream to write.

My earliest memories of myself involve writing in my Aladdin diary (it was pink with Jasmine on the front). I started when I was about 6 or 7. I could not spell many words, but it did not matter. I have loved writing ever since.

I kept telling myself I would write when the kids were older and out of the house. All the while I scribbled away in my notebooks, wishing I had the courage to share my writing.

Finally, my husband encouraged me to start.

No more talking about writing….just writing.

So today I tip my hat to Chad, who continues to “be about” the things he loves.

Let us all find those things we love, pursue them, and live them.
